The government of Spain today announced that it will donate Lps 35.7 million to the municipal government of Tegucigalpa for the construction of four day care centers for children in the village of Santa Rosa and the Cataluña, Los Pinos, and Nueva Jerusalén neighborhoods. The funds will be channeled through the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI). As part of the deal, the municipal government will donate Lps 10 million, which equals the value of the land on which the centers will be built. The municipal government operates two centers that care for the children of street vendors in the La Isla and Séptima Avenida markets. Many of these vendors are single mothers who often have more than one child. Tegucigalpa's government also operates several primary schools and playgrounds for the children of vendors in various market areas throughout the city.
